The HomeGrid Forum announced today it has awarded the first system certification for a G.hn product to long-term HomeGrid member Comtrend Corporation. The Comtrend PG-9172 adapter was the first to pass HomeGrid’s stringent system Compliance & Interoperability testing. The Comtrend PG-9172 Powerline Adapter product is a single input-single output (SISO) model with several plug type options for different regions (EU, US, Israel and others). With an ability to support up to 500 Mbps (megabits per second) with the highest quality of service over standard home electrical wires, the PG-9172 Adapter satisfies all of the requirements of bandwidth-intensive applications such as HD IPTV, VoIP and Gaming throughout the home. The Comtrend PG-9172 adapter incorporates HomeGrid certified silicon, as per HomeGrid C&I requirements. Full details of the silicon and further certification information can be found on our Certification web pages. Certification testing and validation was conducted at HomeGrid Forum’s accredited test house, TRaC Global.

“Our congratulations go to Comtrend for achieving this important milestone,” said HomeGrid Forum President, John Egan. “This now takes us across the threshold. We continue to meet our market commitments and deliverables with this step, as the global activity on G.hn goes on growing. With systems certification now happening, service providers have the opportunity to select systems already HomeGrid Forum certified, reducing the testing time needed before trials and deployment. It also signals to retailers that they can begin stocking shelves with certified G.hn products that they can be confident will have high consumer satisfaction ratings.”

“Comtrend is showing the world that the connected home of tomorrow has many exciting prospects,” said Frank Chuang, Vice President of Marketing for Comtrend. “We are delighted to be first for G.hn system certification and to demonstrate our commitment to this advanced and highly versatile technology that will transform home networking. With HomeGrid Forum certification now in place, we are confident our Powerline adapters will provide a powerful communications backbone for next-generation home networks.” G.hn provides home networking with excellent quality of service over any type of wire, creating a high performance backbone throughout the home that enables seamless, high definition IPTV and multi-media distribution, without the cost and disruption of having to install new wiring.
